How to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation

First thing to do is relax and ask God to help you to understand your sins; you can say the prayer below.

O Lord, grant me  light to see myself as You see me
and the grace to be truly sorry for my sins.
O Mary, pray that I make a good confession.

Do an Examination of Conscience

1. ​I am the Lord you God, you shall have no other gods before me.​                                               Did you fail to love God, to make God first in your life, to thank Him, trust Him,                     & love Him as He deserves?  Did you fail to pray everyday?  Have you doubted                   or denied your faith?  Do you make a god out of work, school, friends, or your                     clothes or things?  Are you angry at God?  Have you participated in magic,                         horoscopes, Ouija Boards, or fortune telling?                                                        
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord you God in vain.                                                             Did you curse or swear?  Do you use God's name in vain, lightly, carelessly.  Do                 you use foul language or jokes?                                                                                  
3. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.                                                                                  Do you go to Mass every weekend and Holy Days of Obligation?  Did you                            receive communion in the state of serious (mortal) sin?  Do you set aside time                   on Sunday for spiritual and family activities?                                                            
4. Honor your father & mother.                                                                                                           Do you honor and obey your parents?  Do you talk back to your parents?  Do                     you respect your siblings? Do you help out at home with chores and                                   responsibilities?  Do you spend time with your family?  Do you respect others that              have authority over you, teachers, coaches, etc...?                                                   
5. You shall not kill.                                                                                                                              Do you given into feeling of anger or jealousy?  Do you have hatred in your                        heart? Have you ever injured anyone in anger?  Do you use drugs or alcohol                      (underage)?  Have you ever had or encouraged someone to have an abortion?                  Do you use Birth Control?  Have you thought about suicide?  Have you killed                      someone?  Have you "killed" someone with your words, for example: with gossip                or lies?  Are you critical, negative, or uncharitable in you thoughts or words?  Are                you prejudice towards other nationalities, races or religions?                                          
6. You shall not commit adultery.                                                                                                      Have you been immodest in dress or behaviors?  Have you looked at someone                  impurely, kissed someone passionately or touched someone inappropriately?                    Have you been impure with yourself or others?                                                            
7. ​​You shall not steal.                                                                                                                          Have you taken anything that is not yours?  Have you cheated on homework,                     tests, games, etc...?  Do you waste time?  Do you waste money and neglect the                 poor and needy?                                                                                                              
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.                                                           Have you lied or gossiped?  Talked about someone behind their back?  Did you                 reveal secrets that are confidential?  Have you injured the reputation of another?    
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.                                                                                  Have I look at impure books, magazines or videos?  Have you neglected to control              your mind and allow impure thoughts?                                                                          
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.                                                                              Are you greedy?  Are you jealous of what someone else has?  Do you compare                  yourself with others?  Is your heart set on earthly possessions or Heavenly                        treasures?
